EVLT uses laser technology to seal varicose veins. A tiny optical fiber is inserted into the vein through a very small incision, and the vein is treated with a laser light. The light causes the vein to contract and the flow of blood is naturally re-routed into other healthy veins.
This minimally invasive treatment is an excellent option for many patients suffering from varicose veins because the recovery time is fast and is one of the least invasive treatments available. Many patients are allowed to resume their normal activities soon after treatment, and are required to wear a pressure garment for a short time after the treatment to aid the healing process.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy is another minimally invasive surgical treatment for varicose veins. This technique is used to treat very large varicose veins. In this procedure, an experienced vein doctor removes the varicose vein through a very small incision. The procedure is performed using a local anesthetic in our state-of-the-art vein treatment facility. Like EVLT, patients are required to wear a pressure garment following the procedure, and can usually resume normal activities in about a week.
For the treatment of smaller veins and spider veins, sclerotherapy is an excellent option. During the treatment, the physician injects a solution directly into the vein using an ultra-fine needle that causes the vein to contract and seal. Like, EVLT, blood naturally flows into healthy veins. Patients may require two to four treatments to achieve their desired results.
Ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy uses the same fine-needle injection technique as traditional sclerotherapy. In this procedure, however, the doctor uses ultrasound to image the vein, allowing her to directly monitor the injection.
